They didnt know about us and we didnt know about them.
They lived across the road from the Parks main entrance at 10 Canning St. Eileen mentioned the Park Superintendent but had forgotten his name. I said we had a 'Parkie' called Mr Duffy and lo and behold that was the name she'd forgotten. His name was Tom Duffy and he was Scottish and the Park Superintendent. Mr Jimmy Hibbert worked for him and eventually became superintendent when Mr Duffy retired. When Eileen lived there Mr Duffy's family were all grown up with their own homes. One son was a lawyer in South Shields, one daughter was married to a doctor, another son was with the coast guard as an inspector and their was another daughter called Nancy who I think lived locally. Eileen's mum and Mrs Duffy were great pals and she would look after their dog when her parents went on holiday.
Maybe 15 or more Years ago Eileen posted on Mike Ellison's Hebburn msg board looking for old school friends & one pal in particular was Margaret Butcher (who is our board regular Margaret McDonald).Eileen used her maiden name of Rodger not Rodgers so I contacted her & we found we were the same family from Fife in Scotland.
Sadly Margaret has recently lost her lovely husband Alec. Deepest condolences Margaret & family on the loss of your lovely gentle husband & dad Alec.
