No clear info on the net but the death of Prince Albert in 1861, Queen Victoria started to wear mainly Black. However it appears the wearing Black clothes is sort of empowering. So maybe that’s why. These days a lot of people wear black. To some extent that is not safe. Often when out driving at night you just cannot see pedestrians. Allan C.
