These days you can buy tents and gear to suit, mini-caravans , trailer tents etc.
It’s your choice to be limited by your use of bus pass. However you could get a rucksack plus gear and travel the country on your bus pass if you wished. Some do.
These days there are so many alternatives to getting away for a few days , weeks or months.
We seen cyclists who are travelling around the U.K. for months.
One pair were away from home for 6 months or more. You buy bikes and camping gear to suit.
It’s called freedom of the open road years ago.
I have camped since I was about 10 with the Scouts then when Dad got his first car in about 1955 ish, tent etc loaded and away!
Hiked up in the Stanhope moors with the Scouts. Later tent etc in car, then built a trailer to carry bigger tent etc ( so could go diving as well) then onto caravans.
These days there are so many people camping in all its forms that it’s getting difficult to book a campsite and the prices have shot up. Probably COVID to blame!
A pitch on a proper campsite seems to start at £25 per night for a couple and depending on location and season plus facilities and up to £52 per night. That’s at One big site at Edinburgh peak season. Last years prices.
It’s our choice to go caravanning and we love it. Seen a large proportion of France but less of Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Portugal, could not have done it without the caravan particularly not for 20:weeks of the year as we did.
It’s my choice that I have a SUV with a 2.2 ltr engine it was a workhorse until recently. I have always bought cars that would do or exceed what I would wish them to do. I could afford them so I did.
Cannot wait until March when the camping season starts. Could go next week but we appear to be going to get more snow end of January and the pitches will be soggy unless hardstanding one’s.
There is a big Caravan, Motorhome and camping show on at the NEC soon, get there and have your eyes opened. We will not be going as there is nothing that we require or interested in.
