Came across the small box containing I assume, both Dad and Granddad’s War Medals. I remember him wearing his when in his Specials uniform at the Kelly grave on remembrance days.
They medals would be those given to people who served in a military capacity like, Home guard, ARP’s, Special’s, civil DefenceEtc.
I know that both of them were ARP’s and in the Specials WW2.
On the box which is addressed to Dad it says Group Leader. I had read that any times before but thought nothing of it.
What could he have been Group Leader of?. Maybe in charge of the ARP’s in the Crawley Ave. area?
One thing that springs to mind, a few years ago it was released that there were civilians grouped together to fight in clandestine manner of the Germans had invaded and taken over the U.K.
However Dad had dodgy knees from his football days so ruling any involvement in that.
Dad said very little about what he was/did during the war other than he was on ARP duty and had got Mr. Cram the milkman and family out of their house after an incendiary went thorough their roof.
Any idea folks.? Allan C.
