George Stephenson monument

George Stephenson was born in Wylam a Tyneside village 1781. He became a self taught engineer & was classed as 'The father of the railways'. He was the principal inventor of the railroad locomotive.
The whole world benifitted from having railroads which as we know from cowboy films they opened up America & it was all thanks to a 'Geordie lad'.
