Hi Mac. I asked on the board a few weeks ago about a box holding Dad’s WW11 medals which had written on it Group Leader Allan F. Campbell and asked if anyone knew about what it was for.
The box contained a Civil Defence Medal ( Dad was a ARP warden) and a Special Constabulary Medal which I remember had stitching on the material for two bars. The bars are missing but I do remember them being sewn on.
I had wondered if the Group Leader was to do with being part of Civil Defence as an ARP warden.
On Friday during my son’s visit I brought it up and he was able to find the following photo.
So Dad was a Group Leader in the Durham County Special Constabulary.
Two questions that maybe you could answer.
How would he be awarded two bars. I assume that one could be for getting the Cram family ( milkman) out of their house after an incendiary went through their roof into the main bedroom.
No idea about the second bar.
What would a Group Leader be in charge of?
Some time ago I tried to contact Durham Police for Dads police records. Nowt came back.
I do not have that medal or ever remember seeing it.
Allan C.
