This is an old undated postcard photo issued by the Tyne General Ferry Company and shows one of their ferries the Aileen. The Aileen was built for the Tyne General Ferry Co. by Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth & Co. Ltd., Low Walker in 1897. The Aileen was sold to the Government of the Gambia in 1906 and renamed Mansah Kilah. The Tyne General Ferry Company operated on the Tyne from 1862 and 1908 when it went into liquidation as a result of the rise of electric tram routes.
