Years ago our steelwork erectors would have Cabin days and I assume it’s still the same. New types of equipment could have helped work to be carried out in the rain but back then the men were walking on the steelwork, very dodgy.
Now with scissor lifts it may be possible but not if windy.
Men would climb up to the top of a post or column to guide the floor beam or rafter into place and bolt it up.
Today’s health and safety regs would make some of the things they did as normal a thing of the past.
As there is a lack of new steelwork buildings being erected in our area, only three to four in 5 years but not been able to watch as I travelled into Harrogate.
One is a big factory the rest big barns and one garage, no parking places to stop to watch.
There are a huge amount of housing being built in our area, just houses no other infrastructure. The amount of scaffolding that goes up! It includes safety netting. A house looks like a red block until finished.
