Nowadays that land has Hebburn Comp Sportsield on it.
When I was a littl lad 1950s that dangerous worked out quarry was still there but full of water.Ive said this before about the water being hidden by cork dust permanently floating on the surface making it look like a nice sandy flat area. BUT when we threw a stone in, the cork dispersed to reveal the water & then quickly covered it again. We'd been warned about it being a deep quarry.
PS. The cork was old insulation from local Industry using the quarry as a place to dump rubbish. I heard it came from a ship.
