All Service personnel have Rules of Engagement, and they do vary, depending on the situation.
Big difference between, say, the Falklands, where every combatant was in uniform, basically, no need to give a warning, that i will fire upon you...it was a given...
In NI, different scenario, heavily dependent on intelligence, who was doing what, and where, and to whom..
Where clear warnings HAD to be given, usually, unless those warnings would cause a loss of life, which was often the case....
So opening fire without warning, as often happened with the SAS involved, was because of that intelligence....
You CANNOT judge the actions back then, sitting around in your armchairs, judging people in "life or death" situations....
This government are despicable...
