Many years ago a lady neighbour told me of her first solo patrol in Newcastle as a young WPC. She was from Manchester and Newcastle was relatively new to her. Unfortunately she found she had to arrest a drunk. She was leading him to the station when he suddenly stopped and said " yor gannin in the wrang way hinney. It's just doon there - Luk". She did look and the drunk was right. Having thanked him for helping her out - she still had him locked up for his own safety but never forgot his lovely Geordie manner.
