I met a lovely lady called Marguerite Nicol or Nichol a few years ago at Jarrow History Club and gave her a lift home to Sullivan Walk.
Her estate is on where Leslie's football field was.
We had a good talk and she said her Hebburn dad worked on the Tyne Bridge. Dad told her there was always a little rescue boat at hand to save anyone falling in the river.She said one man died cos he used to joke around a lot.
