Durham Court Flats date back to 1974 and are soon to be demolished as they are 51 years old. That's the cheapest option according to the Council.
Remember how we spent over £11 million (less the £4 million European grant) to bore down to the old Coal seams to take heat from the water via the 'Paul Younger Energy Centre' that opened in Nov 2023 to heat the Flats and other buildings? The mine water heat didnt work in Hebburn so they use solar panels at the energy centre.Even if the mine water was successful, the Flats would still be coming down.
Did no one at the council forecast that the Flats were at the end of life and soon wouldnt be needing heated?
If Business's made mistakes like this they'd soon go bankrupt.
