Stood as an Independent three times, came second three times, always recall visiting a house in Hexham Avenue, an old lady in her late 80s, asked if I could help to get the Council to clear the side of her garage and adjoining footpath which kids have been using to throw rubbish, Council told me it was a private property so they could not help, told her and offered to clear it myself, she said No thanks, asked if I could count o her vote, she replied “No, her father always voted Labour so she had to “ Couldn’t make it up !
