The tug Ulysses leading Pear Branch down the Tyne. Ulysses was built by John Readhead & Co, South Shields in 1874 for clients in Gravesend but was purchased in 1885 by Joseph Lawson and spent the rest of her working days on the Tyne, except for a 3 month period in 1917 when she was hired by the Royal Navy she was broken up in 1937 by Clayton & Davie, Dunston. Pear Branch was built by Palmers, Jarrow in 1921 and was broken up in 1953 in Japan. The vessel you can just see on the right is the Armstrong, Whitworth built Sisak and she was wrecked in 1924 so the photo can be dated between 1921-24. The photographer was Frank & Sons, South Shields.
