The Alkali Hotel building is still there today as you go from Jarrow to Tyne Dock with the Bede Trading Estate over on the right. It is now a Childrens Nursery .
The man with the horse & cart is Septimus Bartram and he lived mins away in Simonside Tce, East Jarrow over on the right. Neighbouring streets were Lancaster St, Phillipson St and William Black St where Catherine Cookson lived at one time.
