Hebburn Palmer's and Leslie's in 1948. The vessel in dry-dock in Palmer's is the Dominion Monarch. Dominion Monarch was built by Swans, Wallsend in 1939 as a passenger, refrigerated cargo ship for Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. Ltd. She was requisitioned by the UK Government in August 1940 for use as a troop ship. All her internal fittings were removed and she was converted to carry 3556 troops. The photo shows her having been released from war duties and being converted back to her original condition for her owners. She was broken up in Japan in 1962. Photographer was Turner's Ltd., Newcastle.
