A story I heard many years ago and still makes me laugh. Years ago when the chap named 'Dinky' Derick was about, he got over the wall at the Consett Iron steelworks to pinch some scrap to sell for drink. It was dark and he saw this figure who he thought was a security guard and ran for his life over the wall and away being half sozzled. It turned out that what he actually saw was the statue of Charlie Palmer ! How true that is I don't know!
