The church was designed by John Dobson and was built in 1827, completed in 1830. The first St. Thomas the martyr was on the quayside in circa 1170 but moved to the Haymarket. There is an organ refurb planned but that will cost £600,000. I do know the greatest organ builders Harrison & Harrison from Durham and they have had the contract for refurbs as long as I can remember. Charles Avison was a great Newcastle composer in Newcastle and his music is often played there. This church has a very fine history and well worth a visit!
