Here is an aerial view showing the 'Theatre' on Lyon St in 1935.It opened in 1897 but was sadly burned down in Oct 1950.By then it was more of a 'Picture Hall' or cinema showing B&W films.
I was 6yrs old at the time & lived 100yds away across the road on Lyon St & watched the firemen tackling the fire on the Friday night it caught fire.
Arthur Jefferson ran the Theatre at one point & he was the father of the famous actor Stan Laurel of 'Laurel & Hardy' fame.
I wonder if Laurel & Hardy ever paid a visit?
At the time of the fire it was owned by the Dawes Brothers, who had 'The Rex' Cinema built to replace it.
