The High Level Bridge designed by Robert Stephenson to carry both Railways & road traffic opened in 1849.
The Swing Bridge first opened 27 yrs later in 1876 was designed to open & allow shipping up and down river.
It has not opened since 2019 due to expensive mechanical problems but hopefully will open in 2026 on its 150th anniversary.
