For Stan,
We have something in common
I too worked at scanners/Marconis
for a couple of years, but felt the urge to travel
I don’t quite know if I have anything in my
poetry you could use. I shall have a look
I did write one many years ago about the local
church, perhaps some of that may be of interest
Attenborough Churchyard
For quiet contemplation
To explore your inner space
There’s a peace within a churchyard
Unlike no other place
To muse upon the future
Reflect upon the past
Then wonder at God’s purpose
Amid a universe so vast
Like a rabble taggle regiment
Headstones stand in rows
Mute testaments to mortality
In death we share equality
Declarations of fond memories
Descriptions of sad loss
Stone face books of a bygone age
Surmounted by a cross
Pathfinders to our future
Reminders of the past
Examples we will follow
When the trumpet sounds it’s last
Leave with soul uplifted
Do not be dismayed
Be heartened and inspired
By the faith and love displayed
