Gerry is a ex pat that worked in Hebburn Shipyards in the 1960s before emigrating. He checks this board out every day & rang me tonight to say how he loved todays Header photo of HMS Nelson. Here is a bit info on the ship as promised.
HMS Nelson was built in the 1920s on the River Tyne by Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth & Co. Ltd. in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Laid down in December 1922, launched in September 1925.
She was commissioned in August 1927 and the battleship was constructed to meet the
limitations of the Washington Naval Treaty. Nelson and its sister ship, HMS Rodney,
were the first battleships built to the constraints of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, which limited their displacement and armament. The ship was a major warship for the Royal Navy, serving as a flagship for much of its career and seeing action throughout World War II
