The max speed that you could possibly take the bend is under 30 mph unless a sports car. So I’m travelling at about 25 mph ish.
I travel this Road a lot at it’s the back way to Knaresborough and our Caravan storage area.
A large white Transit van came round the bend towards me at a fair lick or accelerated hard.
I was within my part of the road and so was he but not his drivers door mirror. The inevitable happened door mirrors crashed.
Usually they just fold inwards with a bit of damage. Not this time! my mirror sort of exploded like pellets out of a shotgun onto my side window.
I pulled in about 100 yards further on and checked the damage before walking back to the impact area to collect hopefully the mirror.
The mess on the road of glass and plastic bits both mine and the vans Wow.
So after picking up all the debris I headed off up to Catterick for a meeting but on return went to The Kia dealer in Knaresborough to see what spare parts are available.
Went with the parts chap to my car a gave the damage a close examination.
Total wipe out as cracks all over the assembly. New unit required.
Total cost for supply painting to body colour and fitting £830 including VAT.
Surprisingly new unit will be in in 3 days.
The only saving being that I was going to have the traffic indicator in the unit replaced in a few weeks anyway as that had been damage before. The replacement of that would have cost about £150 ish.
This is the 4th or 5th time that that drivers door mirror assembly has been damaged. I very often wind the mirror in to try to prevent damage.
So far 3 hits by Transit vans and 2 by lady car drivers.
My 2012 Sorento is wide but no way as wide as some of the newer cars of today.
So it’s going to cost me £830 for repair and the car is only worth about £2,500.
Arr well have to cough up I suppose.
