WoW. Broad and wide open spaces. Not to be seen mid thirties down the Quay, back to backs and one ups and one down. Severn of us lived in a one up and one down way back when I was born mid 1927.No hands out then ( Benefits) apart from the dreaded 'Means test Man' Men standing outside the Shipyards gates and Dole Office waiting to be called ' one of the luck ones Many men were in The Territorial Army .Patriotism would be in there somewhere, but, money was the big carrot.!
