Take a Google Maps trip down High St today starting around the Sunderland Rd junction.........surely soon to be named Desolation Alley.
The buildings in Normans' photo are all totally gone replaced by the road system but what remains from just above Sunderland Rd junction towards the river is heart-breaking.
It makes parts of the "third world" look attractive.
