The Gear Works at the time was the 'Reay Gear Works' who were a Gateshead Company. Their factory had previously been Newcastle Shipbuilding Companies 'platers shed'. They had aquired the land in 1918 to set up their shipbuilding enterprise that started off in 1919 and sadly 2 yrs later in 1921 they went bust. Many years later the Reay Gear works were taken over by RW Transmissions.Today a Housing Estate called 'Tyne View' & a small Trading Estate occupy that land.
