I have been trying to write a blog about a place where I used to play as a kid in the mid-1970s. It was a pile of rocks in the field behind College Road. The rocks were sandstone(?) and presumably came from the draining of the Lakes.
We always referred to it as "The Adventure Playground" and I have heard that at one point there was a proper adventure playground there with a banana slide down from the rocks, rope swings, concrete pipe tunnels and so on. I have also heard that there was a more traditional play park in the same area. This might have been in the late 1960s and they may have been referred to as the big park and the small park?
Does anyone have any information or memories (or better still, photographs) about any parks that may or may not have been in this area? In the photo you can see Toner Avenue School in the background. I believe that the rocks have all been cleared away now.
Thanks!
