All the towns on both sides of the River used to put their sewerage into the river Tyne. How unhealthy must it have been paddling or swimming in the sea off what we called 'The little beach' (now named Little Haven)??????
Thankfully the authorities eventually built the Sewerage Works at Howdon, meaning the water is a lot cleaner nowadays.👍
