A WW2 ship called HMS Kelly was named after a high ranking Royal Navy Officer from southern England with no links whatsoever to Hebburn. But because Mountbatten commanded HMS Kelly the new housing development on Leslies Shipyard land is named 'Kelly's Wharf'. Andrew Leslie created thousands of jobs for nearly 100 years in Hebburn so why was it not called 'Leslies Wharf'. I'd love to talk to the person who decided naming it 'Kelly's Wharf'.
