I wonder if that swimming pool water was pumped from the Harbour 100yds away or was it clean fresh water?
I say that because in those days, all the towns along the Tyne emptied their sewage into the river, meaning that beautiful looking Harbour was highly polluted, relying on the tides to wash away the sewerage.
