Its many years since I walked what is nearly 1 mile to the end of South Shields Pier.What a massive achievement it was building 2 piers & 2 lighthouses all those years ago between 1854 & 1895 with massive blocks of stone from 'Trow Quarry' (where the well know Trow Rocks are at the south end of the 'big beach' (as we called it) but now called 'Sandhaven'
