Interesting Brian. Robert Curthose built the first castle in Collingwood St as you probably know. A guy name Maurice designed the present Keep as well as the Ficket Tower in Dover castle. Interesting that Henry II never came to Newcastle either! I understand the man talking about farming near the keep because the dungeon was used as a storehouse for grain and produce for a long time. I wont mention what went on in the Black Gate!
