The King before starting his visit to the Caribbean had supposedly been briefed on the Government’s position regarding an apology for the slave trade, we were told that the Government’s position was no apology was to be given. Why is it then that not even a week into the King’s visit Burnham suddenly changes position and says that he is open to giving an apology, then immediately after that he changes the goal posts again and intimates he might be open to offering reparations?
I feel that Burnham has humiliated the King, Burnham seems to just open his mouth with no thought as to what comes out if it, we have never been asked our opinion on reparations, I don’t think this topic was in the Labour Party Manifesto at the last GE, so why has Burnham suddenly become an authority on the matter. Also where does he think money will come from to give reparations this Country certainly is running out of money fast, we already give Aid to countries, including the ones wanting reparations.
