Can not remember if I ever put this photo up on the board but I will take a chance on it as I know that there are a good few 'rusties' that visit here. I built this kit car way back in the early 1990s from parts supplied by a character called Terry Rowing (TRAC Engineering). I was only about the 7th home builder and the first to complete one that didn't have to be dragged back to Terry for final fettling. |
Enthusiasts will recognise the car as a replica of the 1938 3.5 litre Jaguar SS100. It is based on the XJ6 running gear and the bodyshell is bang on the original because Terry gained permission from Adrian Newey (yes that one) to take off a mould from his original car. Adrian had bought the original as a very expensive box of bits in USA, shipped them back to UK and got Terry to do the rebuild in exchange for copying the bodyshell.
In 1996, a man called Roger Williams bought the business and renamed it Suffolk Sportcars. This man rang me up out of the blue one day and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He then took it on a promotional tour of the USA which led to many more sales. He went on to develop a replica 'C' Type Jaguar...
Sorry the photo is on its side, I can not fix it as original was a print of photo taken by Roger Williams. A job for the boffins of Hebburn!
