That was fascinating for two reasons. One, my Dad worked there as a welder, Jim Smith, in 1949 he was 16 so wonder if he was an apprentice there then. I had no idea they did so much apart from ships. |
Secondly, i also saw the archive of the SS Northern Star, built and launched on the Tyne. Who would have thought our family would be sailing home on her from New Zealand, after emigrating from Hebburn to NZ in 1965 by plane, but returning in 1969/70 on th SS Northern Star! It was surreal to see the decks we played on and the pool we swam in. Thank you so much for sharing.
