Hello folks, |
The following information is from the book, The Streets of Hebburn - if you can help update or correct it, please let me know, thank you:
ALFRED STREET: Behind and north of Victoria Road West and entered via North Farm Road.
13 homes some built in or before 1901. One built 1935.
In 1850, this was arable land, known as Little Field, occupied by Ann Glover, and leased from
landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Prince Alfred (6 August 1844 30 July 1900) reigned as Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha 1893 to 1900. Second son and fourth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha. He was known as the Duke of Edinburgh from 1866 until he succeeded his paternal uncle Ernest II as the reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the German Empire.
