I remember a garage on the left hand side after leaving wardley towards Jarrow, we thought our first house on Fellgate Farm Estate in 1971 and the garage was there then.

It would be unusual (but not impossible) to use the Testo's roundabout on the A19 between Wardley and Jarrow. Are you perhaps mixing it up with the White Mare Pool Rdbt on the A194. LIke you when I first read it I was confused as to where that ,to me, mystery rdbt was. Map below....Testo's is the rdbt on the grey route to the right whilst the blue route is the most likely.
Two very good friends of mine Alf and Vicky Testo owned the petrol station and caravan dealers on the site that is now a car hire depot, they lived in a bungalow on the site, sadly both died at a young age they had two sons Colin and Martin, Colin was killed in a car accident outside of Usworth airfield and Martin was a Royal Navy officer and did not have any interest in the business and it was closed after Alf died.
i always thought it was a family of showmen,i never knew any of them from up here, but i did know the middlesborogh testo,s, i used to race stock cars with "pop" testo at aycliffe stadium in the sixties, there was a large family of them around newport road area.
