Joseph, I don't think many people ever left those old imperial measures but the decimal system comes in handy sometimes. The main thing is that some quarters of this country have been getting tired for many years now...dare I say idle? I only hope that now Brexit is done that we get on with it and make it work. We can't blame the EU any more for any short comings, it is up to the people to generate new ideas. On that subject, I was wondering if the small number of folks who keep this website afloat could come up with some new use for the very large derelict area that was once a great and bustling shipyard. |
Last year I was fortunate enough to cruise down the Tyne and pass that sad old shipyard that we all knew as Hawthorne Leslie. It just cries out for some champion to come along and breath life into that place again. There are many hundreds of places across the whole country that need similar treatment, fresh minds and enthusiasm. That kind of thinking has been a large part of what Brexit meant for me, a new beginning where we decide for ourselves the direction we take, that is governed by our own people.
I see today as a great victory for both sides of the coin and argument because, no matter what else, our democracy has been preserved.
