'The Knife Angel'
Posted by James Goring on February 10, 2020, 2:22 pm
I went Down to the Sage this afternoon after hearing the 'Knife Angel' was on Display (Thanks Trish) & Captured a couple of Photos as it is doing a tour of the Country & will be on Display Here until Feb 27th. The 27ft tall sculpture is made from over 100,000 seized blades and was created to highlight the negative effects of violent behaviour. It symbolises a call for change whilst acting as a national memorial for victims of knife crime. Local charity Samantha’s Legacy secured the display for the region as part of an educational campaign taking place throughout February. A book of reflections will be available by the East doors of Sage Gateshead for visitors to leave their messages and thoughts. The sculpture was designed and created by artist Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre.
Thank yoy so much James for doing this for me. A few folk from Hebburn have been to see this and said it is a very emotional sight. I suppose it will be for many who have lost a family member or friend to knife crime. We live in sad times.
Hello James, I have never heard or seen this 'work of art' - it must be spectacular when the sun shines down on it. Would you mind if I took a copy of your photograph please? Hard to believe so many knives have been confiscated and of course there's obviously more than shown here.... sad state of affairs isn't it? Audrey D.
