One of my aunts and her family used to go to ovingham every year for their holidays, we drove there and spent the day down the river and then back to their chalet, my two cousins thought it strange that we would travel so far just for the day, funny now with the world such a small place, but you don't have to go far to have a good holiday. |
This also reminds me of an elderly couple who were friends of my mother and father, about twenty odd years ago both my wife and myself had been working a lot of hours and the old lady pulled me to one side and suggested that my wife could do with a holiday, she suggested Whitley Bay and advised me that you could get the train all the way round but had to change at Newcastle, and that it was nice there at this time of year. places like Whitley Bay seemed so far away to that generation, she would have been about ninety years old at the time.
