Jedburgh-The Carters Rest- Inspired by Sheila

This is a post inspired by Sheila's post when she said her husband used to drink in Scotland and was offered "Heavy or light" |
Years ago in the 60's my pals and I used to go to The Carter's Rest which at the time was a Dryborough's House and the beers were excellent. Of course, it was Heavy and Light principally available. It was lovely and the Barmen knew their trade. They pulled the best pint I remember.
Then the Brewery was taken over by Watney Mann then Allied Lyons who closed it in 1987.
Does anyone remember those days?
Scotland became a desert for proper beer with Lager reigning supreme.
I think that there are now some craft ales around, North of the border, but I haven't been for 10 years or so.
