Hello EDDY,i would just like to endorse in all of what you have stated about ASBESTOS,its a deadly silent killer I know first hand like you how it works as I myself have ASBESTOSIS.Eddy you used the word IGNORENCE,like you I served my time in the yards PALMERS 1956-61 joiners shop, all over the river, and all over the world in fact,Asbestos was used for lagging, cladding, public buildings schools also for many many other purposes.I remember as an apprentice in the joiner shop 1950s when the trades men would try and avoid working with it,us lads would volunteer so we got an extra twopence an hour.Cutting Asbestos greated a lot of dust we some times rolled it in our hands like snowballs we did not know then of the concequences later on in life.I began my apprenticeship in the joiners shop with 5 other lads,i am the only one here,3 of the 5 have died of ASBESTOIS that tells you something,it was not till the 70s that Asbestos was banned.I would think of a some of Eddies old mates from the yards have suffered in later years even met there death that way. Those days have gone in the mean time workers and families, are still suffering as the men folk brought the dust home with them. Getting back to the post about Leslies what will be done with it,i think they should do some thing like they did in Russia CHERNOBYL,or some thing similier.I think why it has taken so long to sell the site is because of deposit of Asbestois. I really think there is a lot to think about what ever they do with it,as far as building a housing estate, thats a very long way off, I would not have one given. watch this space tb |
