I served my time there too, from 1969-'73. Good times, those pictures bring back memories. Shame it's in the state it's in, Back in the day it was a lively, pulsating workplace. Hebburn lads i served my time with were Ian Hebson, Davy Carmichael. We were Ten apprentices who started in the apprentice training shop and were rotated to different sections of the factory, plus time at Hebburn Tech' College. I worked for a few months in the works garage, under a friend of yours Alan La Rust. His name was Ralphy, a good tradesman and bloke. Everybody was friendly and helpful. Still basically a schoolboy when i started. On a Friday we'd go for a pint at the Cricketers or Albion. It was another world then, all gone.... |
P.S When we started in 1969, I remember the Paddle Tug The Eppleton Hall was being rebuilt at Harrison's Shipyard for her epic voyage to San Francisco. I never thought this little boat would make it, but I was proved wrong!
