Does anyone have an OS map that would show the changes made to Hebburn Colliery after features like the Square, Quality Street and the 'tree' named streets had been demolished. I am looking for something similar in scale and detail to the sheet 14 / 1912 version. I have got the one dated 1959 which appears in The History of Hebburn published in 1994 by Hebburn UDC but that is very short of detail. |
Further down the board you will see that I was having trouble opening some very old Lotus files which have laid dormant for many years. One of them was an attempt to write my early life story from 1940 to 1956. Now that I have finished a two year boat build I thought I would carry on with the story.
At the moment, I am busy describing the fact that Mr. Hitler wasn't the only one who was trying to rearrange things at ground level. There was a massive redevelopment taking place just before and shortly after WW2 in and around the Colliery area. A detailed map of the immediate post war scene would be a great help in making comparisons of what was lost, replaced or renewed. Now you can all go and have a dig in your docs to see if you can help or otherwise point me in the right direction.
