The quality of the photo is excellent. I wonder what the camera was. No doubt one of those big box type things on a tripod. |
Any idea James ?
Talking of cameras, when I started diving in 1971 there were 2 brothers in the diving club. Mike & Brian Preston. At the time they worked in their fathers cameras shop in Harrogate, they took over the shop in the 80ís.
The counters in the shop were big glass display type ones. These counters were filled with a collection of cameras. Almost like a history class of cameras.
I would take my rolls of film there to be developed and if they were not busy one of the brothers would go through the collection as to age and history of the cameras.
They had cameras for underwater use and they and another two of the divers would design and build U/W cameras.
Ken & Monty built cases for still and movie cameras and first test them on club pool nights at Harrogate swimming pool before taking them on dives.
I remember Monty building about 4 still camera cases and testing and using them. He made a case for a cine camera and I am in one of the films he took when diving the Port Napier minelayer off Sky. It lies opposite to the Kyle of Lochalsh.
One of my old diving pals is going to give me a copy of the film, but he is shielding at the moment.
