The Good and The Worst of Christmas.

This morning i witnessed the good and the worst of this festive season.The worst was two people absolutely legless with drink one of whom had fallen down and smashed his bottle of plonk resulting in him gashing his hand badly.Someone phoned for an ambulance and the good arrived.They proceeded to treat the mans injuries but the mans friend started to become abusive to the two paramedics,one a female by the way.His language to them was worse than what i ever heard in the shipyard.More good arrived in the form of the police who promptly arrested the man ,put him in the back of the meat wagon and whipped him off to the cells.In this time of medical emergency the ambulance and police have far better things to do.The two baddies were men i would say in there 50s.Both alcoholics.

Yes Ed this is shamefully not uncommon in today's society.

Our NHS wasnt set up for this.

Our services are fabulous and very brave people. Totally dedicated to their work. Anyone abusing them should receive a heavy fine or some sort of punishment whether or not they are alcoholics or anything else. Am sick to death of others making excuses for some folk. Anyway thats just my humble opinion. Happy Boxing Day one and all.

I totally agree with you there, Trish. There should be one standard, on the spot, punishment for anyone who verbally abuses Health, Security and Safety personnel. Place them in a restricted cubical with only a toilet facility. Keep them locked in there for one week and feed them bread and water. Next similar offence gets sentence doubled and no visitors of any kind allowed allowed.

I am sure that visitors to this Forum will have plenty ideas on how to deal with those who ‘physically’ abuse our long suffering NHS and other vital service personnel.

If we have truly got back the right to set our own laws in this ‘New Deal’ then this must surely be one of the first actions of our newly found freedom. I would even go as far as to say that the people should rise up against a government that does not start the ball rolling immediately on dealing with such abuse.

Noises have been made by various politicians about inflicting the severest penalties with these assaults but it seems that's all it was , noises.
