I love this photograph, Norman. Looks as if the front line of children are kneeling on upturned forms which would indicate that that was how they probably sat to have their lessons. And, the boy at the back fifth from the left is wearing spectacles. I wonder how many of the rest should have had them too.

1911 census shows two sisters called OWEN living in Newton Villas (8 rooms) with their parents and siblings. They are both student teachers, one at a training college.

Would these children all be in the same class?. The reason I ask is because the heights of the pupils vary so much.

I wore spectacles in the late 1920s Went to the clinic on Argyle Street to have them made and fitted-- have needed 'specs' ever since - now have four pairs, each for a different need- every day-reading-close computer work, sun glasses- can't stand strong sunlight- still have the same eyes- well sort of!.
I have a friend who has dozens of pairs- all the same prescription- he just can't ever remember where he put the last pair he used, the are scattered all over the place , inside and out so where ever he is he has a pair handy.
I apologise for interupting this thread, it's an impulse thing you know

Hi Barry, My friend did have at one time that style of specs harness but they did'nt last long. I think he quite liked fussing about looking for his specs.They where not on a proper prescription, he would also enjoy picking through cheap , one size fits all , from places like Woolworths etc;
Keen on everything to do with motorcycles -- T T races, offten there as a spectator, do'nt think he actually entered. In his garage he had two machines, can't recall the makes, and mountains of spare bits and bobs in every corner plus half a dozen pairs of specs11

LHS middle row the 2 girls at the end “could be” my mothers two eldest sisters. The eldest born 1901.

Whiteout a date it’s difficult to be certain.

Why do I think that it could be them. It may sound nuts but it’s the bows in their hair. It’s exactly the same as later photos on my mother and her sisters. Maybe I’m looking through rose coloured glasses Ah Well.
