Great to chat, my old ERF KV for Associated lead, did not like the winter, old newspaper rolled up and flames licking my are hold it in air intake, engine popping away, eventually blasting into action few times did try ether very dodgy if you sniffed it. Talking about ERF parts, there used to be a scrap guy used to buy old ERF's from the Lead works he was called "Monty" if I remember wore a cowboy hat, he used to ship the Gardiner engines to Hong Kong for the Junks engines, not sure wear he was from, there was another guy a showman from Derby shire bought them turned them into generator vehicles.here are couple that may assist your friend look for the very rare split windscreen : https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/truckads/erf_lorries.htm |
I enjoyed my trucking days from ERF,Commers, Volvos, Scanias, AEC,Seddon, the list goes on, some one worked out my mileage I had covered over the years think it was over 4.3 million miles, and a few breakdowns on the way, lucky my experience could normally Gerry rig it home. One memory was a mates Volvo F88 head gasket was fixed with 6 eggs stopping the leak, I may right a book one day, call it, tale of a long distance driver, bit strange from that life to ending up in academia teaching logistics and security, then electronics, enjoyed every minute except the scary bits, no brakes on Mount Blanc or Jack knifing in snowy Austria or the bandits in the Balkans, hoe you enjoyed my little chat, and the ERF lad get his windscreen.
