That's when they built propper houses, houses that will probably still be here in 100 years time, bet there was some real skilled men among that squad.

Wonder where that was taken. I cannot find it. Maybe demolished now.

The photo is and end Terrace with what looks like a garden wall to RHS. The houses appear to be built on level ground but that as any slope hidden under the timbers on ground.

Just like to try to spot then and now.

Ashfield Tce is on the main Shields Rd in Pelaw. Its on not far past where the Shirt Factory was heading towards Heworth

Had a look Norman. I suspect that house could be anywhere in Pelaw, Bill Quay or ??.

Ashfield Terr. is I assume where the boss lived. That being his advertising board.

To have the door on the right, for the upstairs flat next to a gable wall does not appear to be the Pelaw norm.

Norman: The photograph of the workmen brought to my mind imagined characters in a book I had read perhaps 60 years ago. In my mind were images of men such as those in the photo. Before writing this post, I Googled the spelling of book title "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist". Here is the cover page of the book shown on the Googled page tonight. Imagine my shock at seeing this. Incredible and uncanny. Not the same photograph i know, but still rather strange.
PS I don't believe in these sort of things....?
